"We have been using Kathryn for our school portraits for several years at both of our school locations. Not only are her pictures absolutely beautiful – her professionalism is unmatched. From date scheduling, to onsite picture day, to post picture day communication and print delivery – Kathryn is the most organized photographer we have ever worked with. You will not regret choosing Kathryn for your preschool portrait needs!"
"Kathryn is the most organized photographer we have ever worked with."
After photographing thousands of preschoolers over multiple campuses, I know that no two schools are the same, nor should they be treated that way. Let's sit down and go over the unique needs of your school and make sure we are a good fit! This is also a great time to pick a location for pictures together.
the process —
After we meet to go over details, we will get a date in the calendar for picture day! This holds your spot in my schedule, and you get to sit back and no longer worry about picture day.
the process —
As we approach picture day, we will reach out and ask for a roster and sibling list. Once we have received your roster (no later than three weeks before picture day), my assistant, Missy, will get to work creating your galleries. I will also work with you to set a schedule and order for picture day, and will send marketing materials for you to share with your parents. If there's a sign up required, we will send you that link as well!
the process —
I will arrive around 45 minutes before start time to set up and go over last minute details with a volunteer or teacher helper for the day. Then the magic begins and we will work through our roster, and remain flexible! Once photos are completed, the school is encouraged to share my Instagram page with parents so they can request sneak peeks of their children if they choose.
the process —
Within one week of picture day, your school will receive a link to the your school's photo galleries, as well as an informational PDF for parents, and graphics to share on social media. The school will send out three emails to parents to make sure they get their order placed before the deadline. After the one week deadline, I place all print orders and get to work packaging them by hand!
the process —
Print delivery day! Within four weeks of picture day, I will hand deliver your prints to the school to be handed out to excited parents. Once prints are delivered and picture day is wrapped up, we can start planning for next year!

When my first child was a toddler in preschool, I received school portraits that were zoomed out so far that she became a tiny subject lost in a sea of props and background. As a family photographer, I love capturing genuine emotion and connection. So in 2019 when the directors of my daughter's preschool asked if I'd take their school portraits, I knew I'd have to do it differently.
The boutique school photography I offer is so much more inviting and authentic than traditional school pictures. The beauty of boutique portraiture is in its simplicity--clean lighting, a simple backdrop, and a focus solely on the unique child before the camera.
I know that for preschoolers, new people and situations can be overwhelming, so I work to be calm, kind, and joyful in my demeanor to build rapport with them. I don't force smiles, but strive for authentic expressions and to bring out the personality of each child.
As a mom of four, I want to remember my children at every age, but they grow so quickly. Truly understanding the incredible value of the school photos that I provide to families is a gift and joy. Boutique school photography is both modern and timeless, and I'm so glad it found me.

"...The whole process from beginning to end was professional, timely, and encouraging. Each of our families have been overwhelmingly impressed with the style and care of these portraits. Kathryn has a talent at making her subjects feel at ease, drawing out natural expressions that not only look great for our yearbook, but are a treasure for each family to purchase for their home."

For schools that need an alternative to flash, I offer a black backdrop and natural light. I require a large north or south facing window to achieve this look.
i'm so proud to work with these
